Kyajo Ri Peak

Trip Duration 17 days
Highest Altitude 6186m
Trip Season Spring & Autumn
Starts From Kathmandu

If you want to succeed in your Alpine Mountaineering skills, Kyajo Ri Climbing is best for you. The Kyajo Ri Mountain which lies in the Khumbu region of Nepal provides you an enthralling experience of an Alpine expedition.  For successfully completing this expedition, you will need to spend 5 nights in tent. The hike for this mountain up to its base camp is very exciting and the trail provides you knowledge about mixed landscapes. Though, this trip is a bit challenging due to the high altitude, the trip gifts you with the alluring mountains and you will camp next to a freshwater stream which itself will be a new experience. You will go for an obvious col in day 2 and you will need to go through the rock debris over steep terrain to reach the camp. At this camp, you will witness one of the most beautiful valleys and the Kyajo Ri peak will look at its best from this point. The trip will begin after a well-earned rest day and you will head straightly for the advance high camp. Though you will come across difficult route to the final col characterized by rock debris and scree, once you reach the advance high camp, you will be glad to have taken this trip. The camp is right next to a lake which is frozen as solid (most of the time) and you can also view the Kyajo Ri mountain from there. You will begin your trek at around 2 am on the summit day and witness jaw dropping views of glaciers where you go in crampons generally. There will be ascending over the rocks and since it will be dark, you will need head-torch to arrive the South East col before daylight. After this comes the most challenging part of the trip. With crampons on and a single technical ice axe, you will begin to climb in the snow and ice which is very steep using a jumar on a line that is secured by your Sherpa.  The climb of the rock wall is needed to complete this trek which can be sometimes iced up. Thus, you will require some technical climbing skills and you need to use your ice axe carefully in the rock to complete this part successfully. The trail to this peak can be tremendously steep and exposed at times (can be between 60 and 70 degrees) and you should use the front point and your axe for lengthy time periods. Thus, this trek requires you to be physically fit and a serious determination is required to successfully complete the trek. The most beautiful thing about this trip is that after such hard work, the top of the peak will gift you with the most wonderful panorama of the Khumbu region. The climb down from this mountain will be technical and will require a lot of hard work, but you will always be compensated with tasty hot tea at your camp. This trip is worth all the exhaustion and hard work.
