Pasang Ongchu Sherpa - Conquering the Altitude

Pasang Ongchu Sherpa is a world-renowned IFMGA/UIAGM certified mountain guide, explorer and mountaineering instructor from Solukhumbu, Nepal. Born in bung-9 Solukhumbu and raised in the Sherpa heartland of Solukhumbu. He developed a strong connection to high altitude environments from an early age. His lifelong involvement in trekking, expedition operations and hospitality services in the Everest region reflects his commitment to sustainable mountain tourism and local employment. He achieved the prestigious IFMGA/UIAGM mountain guide certification in 2011, becoming a part of an elite group of internationally recognized mountain guides.

Pasang has been closely involved in numerious high-altitude expeditions across the Himalayas, contributing to the successful organization and management of major climbing and trekking journeys in Nepal. His expedition achievement reflects decades of hands on involvement in Himalayan mountaineering. He has successfully summited Mount Everest (8,848.86 m) multiple times from both the Nepal and Tibet sides (years: 2022, 2021, 2016, 2013, 2012, 2010 and 2008). His achievement also include remarkable ascents.

Beyond Himalayas

Beyond Nepal, he has conquered major peaks across the Andes (south America), including Huascaran, Chopicalqui, and Tocllaraju and climbed Kilimajaro (5,895 m) in Africa. His alpine accomplishments also extend to Mont Blanc (4,810 m) in the European Alps.

In recognition of his contributions, he has led multiple exploration projects including; establishing the Mahakulung Rock climbing center (2021), Creating a new rock route in the Mera Peak region (2020). As a mountaineering instructor, he has trained hundreds of aspring guides and climbers through programs such as; Basic and advanced mountaineering Training, Mountain Rescue and Navigation Courses, Rock climbing and Trekking Guide Training and an instructor for aspirant guide and rock level I courses.

He has held prominent leadership and membership as a general member of Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) and Nepal National Mountain Guide Association (NNMGA), Coordinator of Training committee in Nepal Mountaineering Instructors Association, Member of Everest Summiteers Aspociation and a former president of Cherem Youth Society.

 

Recognition in Mountainnering Society

Pasang Ongchu Sherpa has received multiple awards and professional recognizitions in acknowledgment of his long-standing contributions to Nepal Mountaineering and adventure tourism industry. He has been recognized by several national and local institution such as; Chief Guest of First Tenzing Norgay Sherpa Open Climbing on 2024, Recognized by the ministry of Culture, Tourism and civil aviation (2008) for supporting the inclusive Women Sagarmatha Expedition. Pasang's professional training and certifications include; IFMGA/UIAGM Guide certification on 2011, Mountain Instructor certification course, Skill Test Assessor Training from CTEVT on 2022, Ski level I &II (NNGMA & NMA, 2016-2017), High Mountain Rescue Training (2009), Advanced Mountaineering course (2006) and Basic Mountaineering & Rescue Training (2004). These certifications reflect his international competence, leadership and commitment to safety and sustainable mountaineering.
