The Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) Trek is one of Nepal’s most iconic and rewarding adventures, offering a perfect blend of stunning mountain scenery, rich cultural experiences, and moderate trekking challenges. Nestled deep within the heart of the Annapurna Sanctuary, the trek takes you to the foot of the world's tenth-highest mountain, Annapurna I (8,091m), surrounded by a dramatic amphitheater of towering peaks including Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Hiunchuli, and Annapurna South.
Starting from the vibrant lakeside city of Pokhara, the journey winds through lush subtropical forests, terraced rice paddies, and traditional Gurung and Magar villages. As you ascend, the landscapes transform from green hills to alpine meadows and glacial moraine, offering ever-changing vistas that keep each day exciting. Along the way, trekkers experience the warmth and hospitality of local communities, making the journey as culturally enriching as it is scenic.
The trail is considered moderately difficult, making it accessible to trekkers with a reasonable level of fitness. Each step toward Annapurna Base Camp, located at an elevation of 4,130 meters, brings you closer to breathtaking 360-degree views of some of the most majestic mountains in the Himalayas. Whether it’s standing beneath the sheer south face of Annapurna or watching the sunrise illuminate the peaks in gold, the ABC trek promises unforgettable moments at every turn.
Perfect for adventure seekers, nature lovers, and those looking for a true Himalayan experience, the Annapurna Base Camp Trek is a lifetime journey into Nepal’s spectacular landscapes and heartwarming culture.
Your adventure begins in the historic and culturally vibrant city of Kathmandu. Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, a representative will greet you and transfer you to your hotel. After check-in, you’re free to rest or explore the lively streets of Thamel. Later in the evening, you’ll attend a comprehensive trek briefing with your guide to discuss logistics, gear, and answer any questions. This night sets the tone for the adventure ahead.

Today’s trail begins with a long stone staircase leading down to the Chhomrong Khola, followed by a climb through thick rhododendron and bamboo forests. The environment becomes increasingly lush and dense as you descend deeper into the valley. The final stretch to Bamboo winds through shaded forest paths filled with birdsong and the scent of wildflowers. The village itself is a quiet cluster of lodges surrounded by greenery, offering a tranquil place to rest.

Leaving the forested zone, the trail ascends gradually past Dovan and the sacred Himalaya Hotel area, where mountaineering teams often rest. Waterfalls cascade down rock walls, and the sound of the Modi Khola echoes through the gorge. As you climb higher, the air becomes thinner and the trees give way to alpine scrub and rocky outcrops. By the time you reach Deurali, you’re firmly in high-mountain terrain, with cliffs and icy peaks rising in every direction.

This is one of the most rewarding days of the trek. The path climbs steadily from Deurali through a glacial valley toward Machapuchare Base Camp (MBC), a resting point surrounded by sheer white peaks. From MBC, the trail continues upward to Annapurna Base Camp, entering the heart of the Annapurna Sanctuary. As you emerge into the basin, you're encircled by a natural amphitheater of giants—Annapurna I (8,091m), Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and more. Spend the afternoon soaking in the surreal views and watching the alpenglow as the sun sets on snow-covered walls.

After breakfast, begin the descent, retracing your steps through MBC and Deurali, then continuing downhill to Bamboo. The return trek offers a new perspective on the dramatic landscape you passed through on the way up. The change in altitude will be noticeable, as you breathe more freely and reenter lush forest.
