Cho-Oyu Expedition in 2026

Overview

Standing on the border of Nepal and Tibet, Cho Oyu stands with an altitude of 8,188m (26,864ft) as the wotrlds eight highest peak. Also known as "Turquoise Goddess” with its beauty from the serene slope, it is widely known for its most accessible status as well as for the safest 8000m peak to climb and serves as the stepping stone for high-altitude mountaineering. And for climbers targeting for climbing the Mount Everest or seeking their first major Himalayan Summit, Cho-Oyu offers a safe ground for major summit achievement and training too.

The 38-day Cho-Oyu Expedition with Himalaya King is a comprehensive, fully supported itinerary priced at $98,999 USD. The journey begins with an overland border crossing from Kathmandu to Tibet, driving across the scenic high-altitude passes such as Lalung La (5,050m) before getting into the Chinese Base Camp (4,900m) and advancing towards the Advanced Base Camp (5,700m) on the Gyabrag Glaciers.

Unlike more technical 8000m peaks, Cho-Oyu features relatively low hazards, straightforward topography, gentle snow slopes as well as steady ridge passes. But still it demands peak physical conditioning and basic ice-climbing skills for key sections such as what climbers tackle during a 60-meter ice wall near 6,800m.

The package includes all the Tibet travel and climbing permits, 1:1 climbing gear support, high-altitude oxygen systems, full tented camp infrastructure, yak freight transport and private overland transfers.

Trek to Advanced Base Camp Trek to Advanced Base Camp

These 29 days of duration will be dedicated to the actual expedition above the Advance Base Camp. The initial establishment of this expedition will be a high-altitude foundation through a series of tactical “climb high, sleep low” rotations. The rotation includes an acclimation walk above the ABC to Lake Camp (6,000m), before pushing for the scree slopes to set up Camp I (6,400m). After spending a night in Camp I, the altitude push will go across the steep snow slopes and a technical 60-meter ice wall at 6,800m to reach Camp II (7,100m).

The first phase of rotation will conclude with Camp II. From there, you again descend back to Advance Base Camp, where you will take a multi-day rest while the operational team will be monitoring the weather forecasts, waiting for the optimal weather window for the summit push.

Another phase of the rotation starts with ascending to Camp II again, which is also the target for the summit push. Along with Camp II (7,100m), the rotation aims to achieve the new altitude and another checkpoint of Camp III (7,500m).
On the day of the summit push, you will leave Camp III around midnight with headlamps, navigating the fixed lines crossing the snow slopes and rock bands onto the vast summit plateau. With such a diverse summit push,

You will reach the summit along with the Sunrise at 8,188m.

From there, you will be rewarded with the breathtaking view of the Himalayan range, including the massive Mount Everest just in front, along with Lhotse and the Tibetan Plateau. Along with that, you will get a proud feeling of self-achievement.

After spending 20-30 minutes at the top, the careful descent back to Advance Base Camp will be executed.

While you arrive back at the Base camp, you will be arriving with something you got on the summit and what was offered to you by the journey.
