At the top of Poon Hill, you will witness the sunrise from the view tower, with the mountains: Dhawalagiri, Nilgiri, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Annapurna South, Annapurna II, Annapurna IV, Hiuchuli, Tharpachuli, Tukuche Peak, Gangapurna, Dhampus, Manaslu range, and Lamjung Himal.
Gorepani is named (Horsewater), a traditional trading route that has faded with modern road development. Major Tek Bahadur Pun Magar established the Poon Hill view tower. who served as an Indian Army officer. Poonhill was originally known as Lung Ting Danda before being renamed Poonhill.
Because of its moderate altitude, comfortable walking distances, and excellent mountain views, the Poon Hill Trek is often considered one of the best introductory treks in Nepal. It combines nature, culture, and adventure into a rewarding experience that can be completed in just a few days.
Highlights of the Poonhill trek
Your trek begins today with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara on a local bus. You will meet your guide at the hotel around 6 AM. Along the way, the bus stops at Dhading for a light breakfast, continuing toward Pokhara, where you will have lunch at Tanahun, and the bus will continue toward Pokhara. After the 7-8 hours of drive you will reach Pokhara.
Upon your arrival in Pokhara, you will be transferred to your hotel, where you can take some rest, and if you want, you can explore around Fewa Lake. Pokhara is the second-largest city of Nepal. Pokhara is surrounded by the Himalayas and green hills with big lakes in the heart of Pokhara, which is often called Fewa Lake. Fewa Lake is a tourist destination that is famous for boating, kayaking, and cozy cafes near the lake.

After a light breakfast, your journey today toward Thikedhunga begins with a short drive from Pokhara to Nayapul. From today, you will enter the Annapurna region. Nayapul is the starting and ending point of trekking for trekkers in the Annapurna region. After some checking at the checkpoint and lunch in Nayapul, we will begin our trekking toward Thikedhunga.
After 3-4 hours of walking, you will see the beautiful village of Thikedhunga. Along the way to Thikedhunga, you will cross through farmland and amazing settlements of Birethanti and Hile. Thikedhunga is the perfect night stay spot for trekkers. Overnight stay in Thikedhunga.

After a light breakfast and a peaceful morning in the lower hills, today’s journey takes you deeper into the beautiful Annapurna region as you trek toward Gorepani. The trail passes through lush rhododendron and oak forests, charming mountain villages, and stone-paved pathways. You will get a chance to see wild animals and many species of birds. Along the way, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of snow-covered peaks, cascading waterfalls, and traditional local settlements.
As you gain elevation, the fresh mountain air and changing landscapes make the trek even more rewarding. By late afternoon, you’ll arrive in Gorepani, a picturesque village famous for its panoramic Himalayan scenery and warm teahouse hospitality. Gorepani is also known as a (Horse water). Spend the evening relaxing while preparing for the next day’s early morning sunrise view at poonhill. Overnight stay in comfortable lodges of Gorepani.

Wake up before dawn for one of the highlights of the trek. You will climb toward the famous Poon Hill viewpoint around 4 AM for a stunning view of sunrise over the mountain ranges. Reaching the summit just before sunrise rewards you with unforgettable panoramic views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges as the first rays of sunlight illuminate the snow-capped peaks. No one is allowed to take a Thermos, a drone, or other restricted items toward Poonhill. After spending time taking in the scenery and capturing photographs, return to Gorepani for breakfast.
After a light breakfast, the trek then continues through enchanting forests filled with rhododendrons, crossing gentle ridges and peaceful woodland trails before reaching Tadapani. Ghandruk is known for its rich culture and stunning Himalayan backdrop. Ghandruk is one of the most beautiful villages in the Annapurna region. Spend time exploring its stone-paved streets, traditional homes, and local museum while learning about the customs and lifestyle of the Gurung community. The impressive views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Machhapuchhre create a memorable setting for your overnight stay.
