Upper Mustang Trek

From Kathmandu to Pokhara it takes 7 hours of driving. Overnight stay in Pokhara. After checking into your hotel, you will have time to explore Pokhara around the lakeside and enjoy the view of the mountains. 

The adventure begins with an early morning scenic flight from Pokhara to Jomsom, one of the most exciting mountain flights in Nepal. During the short flight, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges along with the deep Kali Gandaki Gorge. After landing in Jomsom, the trek continues toward Kagbeni, a beautiful medieval-style village located at the gateway to Upper Mustang. The trail follows the windswept river valley with stunning mountain scenery and unique dry landscapes. Kagbeni welcomes trekkers with narrow alleyways, traditional mud-brick houses, prayer flags, and ancient monasteries that reflect strong Tibetan influence. Overnight stay in Kagbeni.

Leaving Kagbeni behind, the trail officially enters the restricted Upper Mustang region. The walk passes through dry hills, rocky cliffs, and small settlements surrounded by dramatic desert-like scenery. Trekkers cross suspension bridges and follow ancient trade routes once used by Tibetan merchants. Along the way, colorful rock formations and views of the Kali Gandaki Valley make the journey rewarding. The landscape becomes increasingly dramatic as the journey continues deeper into Mustang. The trail from Syangboche to Ghami passes through open valleys and fascinating desert terrain shaped by wind and time. Today’s journey continues through the heart of Mustang’s remote landscapes. The trail crosses dry plateaus, suspension bridges, and deep canyons while offering impressive mountain views. As you approach Charang, the scenery becomes richer in culture and history. Charang is one of the most important villages in Upper Mustang, home to an ancient monastery, traditional fortress, and beautiful mud-brick houses. The village reflects the authentic lifestyle of the local people who have preserved their traditions for generations

This is one of the most exciting days of the trek as the journey leads to the legendary walled city of Lo Manthang, the ancient capital of Mustang. The trail gradually climbs across wide, barren plains with stunning views of the Himalayan desert and surrounding mountains. Along the way, travelers can feel the unique atmosphere of this hidden kingdom. Upon reaching Lo Manthang, trekkers are welcomed by centuries-old monasteries, royal palaces, narrow alleys, and traditional Tibetan architecture. A day trip to Chhoser provides a fascinating exploration of the ancient sky caves and hidden valleys near Lo Manthang. The final trekking day follows the Kali Gandaki Valley back toward Jomsom. The trail passes through Kagbeni and continues along wide riverbeds surrounded by dramatic mountain scenery. Trekkers can reflect on the incredible journey through Upper Mustang while enjoying the changing landscapes of the lower Mustang region. Strong mountain winds, rocky trails, and panoramic Himalayan views make the walk both memorable and rewarding.
