Island Peak, locally known as Imja Tse, rises to 6,189 meters (20,305 ft) in the heart of Nepal’s Everest region. It is one of the most popular trekking peaks in the Himalayas, offering an exciting introduction to high-altitude mountaineering. According to the British Mount Everest Expedition, in 1953 AD, the peak earned its name because it appears like an island surrounded by a sea of ice when viewed from the nearby village of Dingboche. With breathtaking Himalayan scenery, glacier travel, and a rewarding summit climb, Island Peak is an excellent choice for adventurers seeking a true alpine experience.
A luxury Heli-In/Heli-Out itinerary combines the thrill of climbing Island Peak with the convenience and comfort of helicopter transfers. Instead of spending several extra days trekking in and out of the Khumbu Valley, you can enjoy stunning aerial views of the Everest region while reducing travel time and physical fatigue. This allows more time for acclimatization, training, and enjoying the mountain environment.
The journey takes you through the spectacular landscapes of the Everest Region, passing traditional Sherpa settlements, ancient monasteries (Gompa), alpine valleys, and dramatic mountain scenery. As the expedition progresses, participants gradually adapt to the altitude before moving toward Island Peak Base Camp. Our experienced climbing guides provide training on the use of mountaineering equipment, including crampons, harnesses, ropes, and ice axes, ensuring you are well prepared for summit day.
Summit day is both challenging and rewarding. The ascent begins before dawn and involves rocky trails, glacier crossings, and sections of snow and ice. You will navigate the mountain carefully while enjoying magnificent views of some of the world’s highest peaks. Reaching the summit rewards you with a breathtaking panorama of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Ama Dablam, and countless surrounding Himalayan giants.
After celebrating the achievement, a helicopter flight out of the mountains offers a memorable conclusion to the expedition. The aerial journey showcases glaciers, deep valleys, and snow-covered peaks from a unique perspective, creating an unforgettable ending to one of Nepal’s most iconic climbing adventures.
Your Island Peak adventure begins upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. Our team will be there to welcome you and assist with your transfer to the hotel. After check-in, you can relax after your journey or explore the bustling streets of Thamel and the vibrant atmosphere of Nepal’s capital city.
The remainder of the day is free for rest and personal activities. Overnight stay in Kathmandu.

Upon your arrival in Dingboche, you will have lunch, and then you can rest for the remainder of the day. You can also go for a short hike near Dingboche. Dingboche is a unique village in the Khumbu region because during mid-July to early September, all activities halt, the village becomes lockdown and nothing is allowed to be done during that time. According to their ancient or spiritual beliefs, it is seen as time for rest and reflection.
